What Do Babies Dream About?

IMG_1299bw

Dreaming occurs during REM (rapid eye movement) sleep, and with infants spending 50 percent of their snooze time in REM, it would be a logical assumption that babies do also dream.

Do you have an idea or do you also wonder what do babies dream about?

I ask because I've encountered seeing my little Asher many times either smiling (even chuckling one time) or momentarily whimpering in the middle of his sleep at night. Often times, hubby and I would even get distracted and shifts our bedtime discussion topic to what he could have possibly dreamt of.

Presumably, they dream about infantile things or scenarios. And with my son being exclusively breastfed, this is what my husband is jokingly assuming:

When he whimpers:
He's dreaming of boobies running away from him.

When he smiles or chuckles:
He's dreaming of plenty boobies surrounding him.

Funny assumptions, huh?

So what do you think your babies are dreaming about?

Favorite Toy.

At barely 6 months old, no doubt about it, my son absolutely loves this Tiny Love Wind Chimes developmental toy that his Dad bought for him. He loves reaching for the colorful fishes and the crab while the chimes sound. And as soon as he grabs any of them, off it goes straight to his mouth. He also loves gnawing on them probably because he's gumming and teething at this stage.

Two Milestones in One Day.

August 25, 2008 will remain memorable:

1.) Asher had his first taste of solids (cerelac rice & soya cereal) and the reaction? He couldn't get enough of it. He liked it so much that he whined whenever we put the spoon down to scoop more. He doesn't want to let go of his spoon.

2.) He can sit on his own without toppling over.

These two milestones on his 5th month week 4...both in just one day.

First Reaction. Yum yum.

I Can Sit on My own na. Playing with my first piggybank

Busy Weekend Ahead.

My Little Asher,

We certainly love weekends, don't we? It is because Daddy's off from work and we love every single minute that he's with us. And we love long weekends much more just like we have now because we get to spend the whole of Monday with him. Our country will be celebrating the National Heroes' Day so it's a Non-Working Holiday.

Anyway, it seems we have a busy weekend ahead. Later this afternoon, we'll be heading to your Pediatrician for your monthly wellness check up. Uh-oh, your 6th month scheduled immunization I believe is Pentaxime so your poor little chubby butt will be poked again. You may cry the pain out but don't worry my darling, Mommy's just here to comfort you and alleviate the pain. Mommy will also be strong because you see I abhor and hate it when I see you in pain. But I know you'll do good later because you're such a brave lil boy. That'll be for your own good anyway so you'll stay healthy and safe from sickness.

We'll also drop by the mall after the checkup to shop for Cade's gift. Cade is Tita Janice's (Mom's former colleague at Globe Telecom) son and he's celebrating his first birthday tomorrow. And I bet you're as excited as me because it's your first time to attend a kiddie party. Even though you can't play with the little kids yet since you're only 5 1/2 months old, you're delighted whenever you see little kids. I'm sure you're going to have a blast tomorrow.

We're up for a long driving on Monday as we, together with your grannies and cousins will be on a pilgrimage to Our Lady of Manaoag in Pangasinan. I just don't know exactly how many miles that is from here but it's about four-five hour long drive. Before you were born, our family sees to it to do a pilgrimage up North yearly to give thanks to all the blessings that we've received and say our petitions. God and the Miraculous Lady knows how much we've prayed for you. And now that you're here with us, Mom and Dad would like to pay homage for the greatest gift we've received in you.

We definitely have a pretty busy long weekend ahead so let's just enjoy every moment, ok? I love you my little, Asher.

Xoxo,
Mommy

You & Me Together...

...always and forever, my sweetie Asher.

Mom got visited by her mojos and creativity sparked the other night that she made this layout while you and Dad were already peacefully slumbering. I was actually on digiscrapping roll as I was able to come up with a couple more (will be sharing them in a bit). This pic of ours was taken in the afternoon of July 20 at Lola's house. You just woke up from your noon nap and Mom & Dad were doing nothing, got bored so we thought of taking a picture of you. We regularly take pictures of you monthly so we'll capture how you grow and develop all through your first year. Mom's thinking of compiling a digiscrap book and see how you look cuter and cuter as months pass.

You were four months in this picture and July is so memorable because you achieved several milestones on this month. I love how Dad was able to capture this pic..I hope you can feel here how I'm immensely I'm in love with you, my sweetie.

Xoxo,
Mommy

Our Look-A-Alike Meter.

I don't know if I'll be convinced with the result of this because a lot (including myself), in person, says it's otherwise. Even before our little Asher was born, we knew that he would look like his Dad because of this 3D Ultrasound pic:

He certainly got most of his dad's features, of course, to my hubby's delight.

Well, whoever he looks like more, it doesn't matter. He's so adorable and that's enough to confirm that the combination of our genes can create beautiful people. Lolz.

Shopped 'Til We Dropped.

Selflessness is probably one of the greatest virtues that parenthood taught me. And this is clearly evident every time we go malling on weekends. Gone are the days when we would scour the racks for trendy and new hip clothes for ourselves, anticipate fave author's new releases in the bookstore or just simply go out on a date and watch the latest flicks in town. Yes, I love shopping but motherhood spelled it a lot differently now. I do not have new personal stuffs to boot for the past few months but splurging for baby stuffs has been my "vice" and it brings so much delight on me when I see how charming my little one is on them. And the good thing about this? The husband doesn't give a questioning, raised eyebrow on me because he himself, loves shopping for his son.

So anyway, after having a typical Saturday and Sunday, yesterday (a holiday) was spent malling and having a blast chowing on some pizza treat. We spent hours in the baby section stuffing our cart with new clothings and other stuffs. While I was in the feeding stuffs section, the husband was on his own, busily scanning the racks of infant clothing for boys. In fact, he stuffed the cart more than I did. Lolz.

Shopped.
Credits here.

Here's what we got: diapers, a laudry detergent for baby clothings, a head-to-toe wash, a set of bibs, a set of sando shirts, 2 sets of pajamas (he's outgrown most of his newborn pjs), a set of sleeping shirts, a pair of Chicco shoes (I'm still wishing for Shooshoos), a feeding spoon (getting ready for solids), a soothing teether (he's gumming) and a set of plastic beach toys. The Daddy bought the beach toys for our Boracay escapade on December. Yes, he's that excited for his son.

I remember one time, hubby exclaimed that it doesn't matter to him if he don't get to buy himself new clothes, gadgets and stuffs...because for him, there's nothing sweeter to hear than compliments how cute and adorable his son is with the ensembles we clothe him.

Thank You.

169 unique hits in two days since this blog went live in the blogosphere..not bad. Thank you for taking the time to pop in here and joined us in the online house blessing we're having. Of course, I'm not wrapping up yet the mini-contest/RAK (Random Act of Kindness) I'm doing in here. There's still plenty of time to hit the comment button to try your luck for the draw. It's actually a long weekend here in my part of the woods having Monday as a non-working holiday (Ninoy Aquino Day) and we're taking advantage of the extra day that Daddy's off from work. We'll go malling tomorrow (as promised by Dad) and I'm just not sure if I can go online to share how our weekend was.

Meanwhile, have a blessed Sunday everyone!

Birth Announcement and a RAK.

Hi and welcome to our new online hangout. This will be my daily (err..I'll try) journal and record of our mommy-and-son moments, Asher's milestones or any random thoughts about motherhood or probably about just anything under the sun worth pondering on in this blog. Hope you'll drop by often as we share a part of our family life. Adding our site to your blogrolling list is very much appreciated. Likewise, reading your precious comments and even short hollers in the shoutbox would bring smiles to our faces.

Since it's today that I'm officially announcing online the birth of this blog, I'm doing a RAK starting today until Monday, August 18 11:59 PM (Phil time). Just leave a comment, say hi to me (or to my little A)..and you'll be entered to a $5 Paypal money giveaway drawing. Adding this site to your blogroll earns you an extra entry. I'll be drawing the winner on Tuesday using a randomizer so that gives you ample time to do so.

Can't wait to see your footprints here!

X'cess: My contest in my main blog is still ongoing..hope you can join me there too!

Up and Working.

Hi my Lil A,

This is it. Finally, our new domain is up and working. Since this morning, I've been tweaking our new online nook's template, embellished the header and put up contents on the sidebar. I think, I'm nearly done. So far, it's only Dad who has visited our site as seen on the live traffic feed widget and he likes it. I wonder who'll first visit us here, the first to comment or leave a message in the shoutbox and the first who'll link our site up on theirs. I'm still pondering if I'll also hold a little contest (just like what Mom's main blog has here) as we announce the birth of our new blog. How about an "online house blessing"? Sounds cool, huh? Let me see. I'll check first our paypal earnings if we have some spare bucks to share. I'll think it over tonight.

So there, let's both enjoy our stay here in our new nook.

Xoxo,
Mom

Mom's Dictionary.

Motherhood is entirely a different world. New routines, new priorities and yeah...even new words to learn. Or should I say, old dictionary words but with different meanings to adapt.

Check this out:

Bottle feeding:
An opportunity for Daddy to get up at 2 am too.

Defense: What you'd better have around de yard if you're going to let the children play outside.

Drooling: How teething babies wash their chins.

Family planning: The art of spacing your children the proper distance apart to keep you on the edge of financial disaster

Full name: What you call your child when you're mad at him.

Grandparents: The people who think your children are wonderful even though they're sure you're not raising them right.

Independent: How we want our children to be as long as they do everything we say.

Look out: What it's too late for your child to do by the time you scream it.

Prenatal: When your life was still somewhat your own.

Prepared childbirth: A contradiction in terms.

Show off: A child who is more talented than yours.

Whoops: An exclamation that translates roughly into "get a sponge."

How Happy Are You, Really?

You Are Very Happy

Your life is totally together, and you enjoy every day.

And you don't need a quiz to tell you that!

You know how to find pleasure in the little things...

And even when life isn't so great, you have a good sense of perspective.

Discovery.

Lil A,

Today we witnessed a brand new discovery about you. We're aware that you're already gumming and your first tiny little tooth might spring out anytime soon. It's probably this reason that you're all drooled up and you love playing with it...putting your lips together then seemingly spraying your saliva. And you seem to enjoy it more with the sound that you produce. I wouldn't stop you for now as I know this is your little form of amusement. But don't do it when you grow older because it's rude and messy, I must say. Continue to thrive, my little one. Can't wait to see you develop further and discover more about you. Love u!

Xoxo,
Mom

Motherhood Quotations.

Lil A,

Look what I've stumbled upon the web today...the greatest quotations about Motherhood. Cool inspirations for scrapping. :)

"All that I am or ever hope to be, I owe to my angel Mother." -- Abraham Lincoln (1809-1865)

"God could not be everywhere and therefore he made mothers." -- Jewish proverb

"Of all the rights of women, the greatest is to be a mother." -- Lin Yutang

"The heart of a mother is a deep abyss at the bottom of which you will always find forgiveness." -- Honore' de Balzac (1799-1850)

"My mother was the most beautiful woman I ever saw. All I am I owe to my mother. I attribute all my success in life to the moral, intellectual and physical education I received from her." -- George Washington (1732-1799)

"By and large, mothers and housewives are the only workers who do not have regular time off. They are the great vacationless class." -- Anne Morrow Lindbergh (1907- )

"The mother's heart is the child's schoolroom." -- Henry Ward Beecher (1813-1887)

"The most important thing a father can do for his children is to love their mother." --Author Unknown

"Youth fades; love droops, the leaves of friendship fall; A mother's secret hope outlives them all." -- Oliver Wendell Holmes (1809-1894)

"I remember my mother's prayers and they have always followed me. They have clung to me all my life." -- Abraham Lincoln (1809-1865)

New Home.

To my lil Asher,

This is it. I can't get enough of blogging, my little one. When Mommy started blogging three years ago, I didn't know I get to be so engrossed with it now because you see, Mommy is not really a good writer. Although Mommy tends to go into online hiatus once in a while and be busied with real life chores, I always find myself logging in and chronicling my thoughts about anything. Don't worry, baby, a fourth abode won't mean I'll be spending lesser time with you. In fact, I'm setting this nook for you and will call it our "Life Lessons Bank". Since you're still too young to read and understand things, I'm parting to you all these lessons about life. Yes, this will be our vault. And hopefully in time as you grow bigger and become mature, you get to withdraw and apply all these precious lessons I'm imparting to you.

But before anything else, my darling. Please don't rush growing up too fast. Let me enjoy our innocence and cherish each and every baby moment of yours. i love you, my sweetie.

Xoxo,
Mom
